Navigating the world of college admissions can be intimidating. There is a ton of information to sort through … so many colleges to consider … and a long list of questions students should ask before even selecting a school.
At LaMeire College Consulting, our advisement covers selecting the list of schools to which you apply, to choosing the college that you attend…and everything in between.
After reviewing the student’s preferences, interests, and goals, I provide a list of approximately 20 schools – Targets, Safeties, and Reaches – for rising seniors to consider. Over the early fall, we pare down the list to a manageable number.
Nearly all college applications require essays, which are where the lion’s share of the work comes in. We begin over the summer before the student’s 12
th grade year with waves of pre-writing. Through these, I can get to know the student.
Each application’s essays demand outlines or “frameworks,” which I start to assemble at the end of summer. The frameworks are developed from the reflective writings that the student completes over the summer months.
Over the fall, students are paired with one of my professional writers in order to develop the essays. The early essays go through approximately four to six drafts. For each draft, I review the storyline and the grammar, from the essay’s structure to its emotional tone. The first application takes the most time. If this one is weak, everything else is, too. When I approve and do the final edits on the draft, it is ready to be moved into the application.
We conduct general admissions interview preparation, as well as preparation specific to individual colleges.
We meet face-to-face to complete the application together – specifically, the more complex and important sections.
We schedule meetings as needed.
Where should I apply Early Decision? What SAT Subject Tests should I take? How does the letter of recommendation process work? Throughout the application season, you’ll be confronted with strange situations and things that you simply don’t understand. Throughout the process, I help you navigate these issues.
